It’s crazy how I found The Raven Cycle, All For The Game AND Captive Prince one fine April in 2020 while in quarantine and never got over them.

It would be nice to read a Superman comic that’s more Clark than Kal.

It would be nice to read a Batman comic where Bruce does more good as himself for the issues than as Batman.

It would be nice to see Diana in one of her many jobs like a museum curator bringing beautiful pieces of history to light for people to marvel at or as a diplomat.

It would be nice to see Barry solving crimes with his forensic science without bolting off between every discovery to handle things as Flash.

It would be wonderful to read a story about these awesome heroes that was focused on what good their other identities do, with their heroic personas as background instead of the other way around. I hardly hear of stories that last more than a few issues or an arch that gives us a nice long look into their civilian lives, if anyone knows any longer arcs like this I’d love to read them.

Impromptu Pacifica date night uwu

Aaaaahhhhh but fr I am... on the floor sobbing about finally having a pinky fingers holding screenshot of them 😭😭 early on in their relationship that is the only amount of PDA Vince is comfortable with, and it becomes their thing so much and asdgndnsnfrnnmdf I'm so normal about pixel men I swear.

Also, Kerry in his normal in game outfit for a change, and for a reason! Early on when they're only just freshly dating and in the "what are we even"-stage of their relationship, Phantom Liberty takes place on the side for my timeline for Vince. So for Vince it's a constant back and forth between creepy spythriller and unhinged aging rockstar shenanigans. On top, and based a little on one of V's lines during "I really wanna stay at your house" ("let's talk a bit more before I gotta be somewhere again"), I figure it is super hard for them sometimes to just meet up (also Vince is a workaholic on top of the whole dying stuff, he is always super busy - and so is Kerry working on his new album but also still fighting with his depression). And so a lot of their dates during that time go like so...

Vince (at an ungodly hour): You awake?

Kerry: Yeah, what's up?

Vince: I'm in Pacifica at the pier.

Kerry: omw!

And then they just hang out and talk for a few hours about what's going on. Or go somewhere else together for coffee, or drive to the Badlands to look for adventures and a getaway from their problems and negative thoughts together. Those experiences are what really really makes them fall in love with the other for good and for the long run.

Okay, but I'm still thinking about Eddie's parents and the way that once again they looked at Eddie in a fragile state and decided to kick him while he's down instead of offering him a hand to get up. That's your job as a parent. To take care of your kid is your job as a parent. That never stops. You need to take care of your child. But they once again looked at Eddie drowning and said well, tough luck, I'm taking your lifeline. And this time they actually succeeded. That so fucking insane. Like, the parents of the mains in this show are all horrible but I don't think any of them were actively trying to harm them. Helena was actively trying to harm Eddie. For whatever reason that makes absolutely no sense. Eddie is a great father. He's not struggling to give Chris stability while trying to juggle being a single parent and working three jobs. Eddie has been taking amazing care of Chris. Eddie shouldn't be punished for his grief and Chris shouldn't be taught that he's allowed to run from his feelings. What are they doing?????????? It would be one thing to say "oh we can take Chris for the week so you both can calm down and then we can revisit this" but to say I'm taking your child indefinitely??? That's madness???? And the fact that Eddie's parents would do that to him and that Helena would look cheerful at the idea of taking Chris away is so fucked. Grief is complicated and Chris needs to be validated but to tell him it's okay to flee the state. forever if he wants. so he won't deal with his feelings is not it.

The obsession with safety—and the contradictions of that obsession—is as much about financial management as anything else. But that also is a wider sociocultural formation: the American upper middle-class is generally an asset class now who think about safety in the same way as universities both because all institutions with asset-based wealth have to and because they personally have to safeguard their assets in the same fashion, and face some of the same risks from liability exposure. [. . .] Moving away from the caretaker era can’t just be a matter of exposing students to risk and dismantling systems that make safety the mandatory product of an intrusive regime of surveillance and correction. If the people in charge inside the university and outside of it aren’t equally exposed to the natural consequences of their actions and decisions, all this means is forcefully communicating to students—or perhaps all young people—their relative powerlessness and vulnerability. It means deciding that the lesson you really want to teach is that it’s bad to be powerless and thus you should strive in life for power and wealth in order to be beyond consequences. Arguably, if the caretaker era and the bystander era were both aligned with a wider social ideology that was broadly shared across a generation, then this in fact the new ethos of our time—that there is no safety but in power, and that where power believes people are not being sufficiently punished for the things that power disdains, it will find a way to make consequences where there have been none.

thinking abt caffeine usage i remembered that time when i was no older than 12-13 my mom gave herself me and my little brother each a 5 hour energy so we could finally deep clean and declutter the house and instead it made us all so tired we didnt do anything. so we concluded 5 hour energy is a scam product. we all have adhd
